BROOKLYN BASED VISUAL ARTIST WHO IS SEARCHING FOR HIS TRUE CALLING. I AM INSPIRED BY CULTURE AND EVERYTHING AROUND ME WHETHER IT BE FRIENDS OR A JAZZ RECORD FROM THE 60S I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR MORE INSPIRATION. I SHOOT IN FILM AND IN DIGITAL. MOST OF THE SUBJECT MATTERS I CHOOSE FOR SHOOTS ARE BASED ON ARTISTIC INSPIRATION. IM EXPANDING MY VISUALS TO FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY AND ANY OTHER THING ELSE THAT SEEMS FITTING MY GOAL IS TO EXPAND ON THE WORLD ONE VISUAL AT A TIME . . .
Some black guy is actually a piece I created that inspired another piece of mine titled
Some black guy comes as a reaction and total disrespect of the black mans body.. His body isn’t worth anything. He has no real identity. Society views him as sometimes an entertainer, sometimes a genius, sometimes even a father but at the end of the night. His name appears on your tv screen. You don’t bother to remember because you see this everyday. Some black guy killed again. They look at the mysterious circumstances that made him who he is. They wait for him to explode so they can revert back to what they have trained themselves to know. Oh yea Antonio I think his name is I’m not sure I forgot.. Doesn’t matter he’s just “some black guy”
Some black guy is done in mixed media on 8×10 canvas.
Comes from certain feelings one has about himself as an artist as a black man and as a vessel of culture so to speak.. I am not interested in labels or movements. I consider myself nothing.. I am nothing.. Just some black guy. A nobody.. But when I leave this place I hope my art will be helpful to young men and women and I hope it symbolizes the fact that a black man who is considered nothing sometimes in society can be something actually.. Something much more.
This piece is 16×20 on canvas done in a mixed media technique I call nothing. Hope you dig it and I hope some of my thoughts and sentences that run through my head spark some discussion in your mind.
This piece is about the colored man. Mysterious he is. What motivates him to go on despite the fact his color makes him a target in society. What rules has society put in place for the colored man to follow ?
Walk this way, talk this way, be accepted by your counterparts. My colored man accept the gold Ora that surrounds you. Listen to the stories of your ancestors colored man. Search for the truth don’t let it find you. Have a curious mind. Be vigorous in your attempt to show the world that the world isn’t just black and white it’s more then that. It’s about all the colors.
This piece is the first piece I have completed for 2016 and is a symbol of the type of pathway I’m trying to reach within myself and with the people. Done in oil stick, acrylic paint and oil pastels.
“SELF PORTRAIT OF AN INTERESTING NEGRO”
IS MY NEWEST PAINTING DONE WITH A MIXED MEDIA (16×20) TECHNIQUE ON PAPER. I WANTED TO CONVEY NOTHING IN THIS PIECE ACCEPT FOR A DUALITY ON WHICH THE VIEWER CAN VIEW THE SUBJECT WHICH ARE ALWAYS SOME MOROSE DEFORMED ABSTRACT VERSION OF MYSELF. I FIND AT TIMES THAT I AM LOOKED AT AS A CASE STUDY OR AN ANIMAL IN A CAGE BEING TESTED BY SCIENTISTS.. SOME DAYS I IMPRESS THEM WITH MY INTELLECT AND THE BEAUTIFUL COLORS MY MIND CAN FORM BASED OFF OF MY PAST AND ABILITY TO MAKE LIGHT OF WHATS HEAVY AND OF COURSE THOSE OTHER TIMES IM JUST SOME BLACK FUCKING APE.
“American Psycho 1”
is a piece I’ve been working on for some time it is inspired by a lot of things in American culture particularly a certain type of culture, the one of the yuppie. American Psycho happens to be my favorite novel for different reasons but one them for sure is the way it depicts the American Yuppie and their way of dealing with the issues of the world and what they think of them and how it affects them. To me this is all intriguing and I decided to make 1 of many pieces that will be inspired from the novel. I call this American Psycho 1. This piece was done on canvas and paper.
ALL GOOD IN THE HOOD COMES FROM THE APPRECIATION EITH MY SURROUNDINGS AND FINDING THE SUBTLE YET RAW BEAUTY THAT IS HIDDEN IN EVERY CRACK AND CREVICE.. THE VISUALS FROM A HOOD MUCH LIKE THE ONES YOU SEE ON TV.. OCCUPIED WITH DISMAY AND HOPE WITH POLICE AND STRUGGLE WITH TRASH AND VACANCY.. WITH BROKEN DREAMS AND THE BIGGEST ASPIRATIONS.. THIS IS ITS ALL GOOD IN THE HOOD AND TO ME THE HOOD IS ALWAYS GOOD.
(These visuals reflect my personal observation and a small glimpse into the East New York, Crown Heights and Brownsville neighborhoods in Brooklyn. All areas I’ve lived in one time or another in my life. Hope you and enjoy and stay Woke)
THE RECENT SENSELESS MURDERS OF BLACK MAN BY THE HAND OF THE SUPPOSED JUST AND THE FACT THAT NO REAL JUSTICE CAN BE GIVEN TO THESE MURDERED BLACK KINGS. I THINK TO MYSELF WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON IN THIS CRAZY WORLD RIGHT NOW. THE HOBO SIGNS REPRESENTS BELONGING TO A CERTAIN GROUP OF OUTCASTS AND HAVING A WAY OF TALKING AND UNDERSTANDING THAT THE NORM THE CONFORMIST THE SUPREMIST CANT TRULY GRASP AND UNDERSTAND. I PARRALELL THAT WITH THE NEGRO MAN BECAUSE THEY HAVE MANY SIMILARITIES IN THAT RESPECT. THE FIGURE REPRESENTS THE NEWEST BLACK MAN KILLED BY THE LIKES OF A COP IN 2015 IT SOUNDS CLEASHAE BUT I REALLY WISH BLACK MEN WERENT DEMONIZED AND PROFILED IN SUCH A WAY. THIS PIECE WAS DONE WITH SPRAY PAINT AND OIL STICK ON CANVAS. HOPE YOU ENJOY.
I DECIDED RECENTLY WITH THE TURN OF EVENTS IN MY LIFE TO PURPOSELY INJECT POSITIVITY AND WARMNESS INTO THE ATMOSPHERE NOT ONLY FOR MY OWN BENFIT AND VIBES BUT FOR THE PEOPLE AROUND ME AS WELL. I WANTED TO MAKE SOMEYTHING BEAUTIFUL. THIS IS INSPIRED BY JAZZ AND LIFE AND WAS DONE WITH A MIXED MEDIA TECHNIQUE. I HOPE YOU ENJOY.
THIS VISUAL GALLERY COMES COURTESY OF ME TAKING AN AMBITIOUS ACT ON A HOT ASS DAY TO GO AND SEE THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED LARGE SCALE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION THAT KARA WALKER WAS HAVING AT THE ABANDONED DOMINOS SUGAR FACTORY RIGHT HERE IN BROOKLYN NEW YORK. THANKFULLY I WENT ON THE VERY FIRST DAY IT OPENED NOT KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT AND I HAVE TO SAY I WAS ASTONISHED. THE TIME AND EFFORT IT MUST HAVE TAKED TO COMPLETE SUCH A TASK IS TOO LARGE TO THINK, BUR I WILL SAY THIS I HAD AN EMOTIONAL BOND WITH THE SCULPTURES AND STARTED THINKING OF THE HORRIFIC AND PAINFUL STORIES THAT WENT ALONG WITH THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A BLACK SUGAR WORKER. NEVERTHELESS I WAS INSPIRED BECAUSE TRACING THE ROOTS OF SUGAR IN AMERICA AND ITS INDUSTRILUZATION ONTO THE AMERICAN POPULATION HAS LED ME TO MY OWN ANCESTRY AND ALL THE WORK AND DUES THEY PAID TO KEEP THINGS A LITTLE SWEETER IN A COMPLETELY NOT SWEET SITUATION. BELOW YOU WILL FIND MY VISUAL FINDINGS OF THE EXHIBITION FROM THE SUMMER ALL SHOT WIHT A CANON REBEL EOS 2OOO 35MM FILM CAMERA. HOPE YOU ENJOY AND LEAVE FEEDBACK.
