THIS VISUAL GALLERY COMES COURTESY OF ME TAKING AN AMBITIOUS ACT ON A HOT ASS DAY TO GO AND SEE THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED LARGE SCALE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION THAT KARA WALKER WAS HAVING AT THE ABANDONED DOMINOS SUGAR FACTORY RIGHT HERE IN BROOKLYN NEW YORK. THANKFULLY I WENT ON THE VERY FIRST DAY IT OPENED NOT KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT AND I HAVE TO SAY I WAS ASTONISHED. THE TIME AND EFFORT IT MUST HAVE TAKED TO COMPLETE SUCH A TASK IS TOO LARGE TO THINK, BUR I WILL SAY THIS I HAD AN EMOTIONAL BOND WITH THE SCULPTURES AND STARTED THINKING OF THE HORRIFIC AND PAINFUL STORIES THAT WENT ALONG WITH THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A BLACK SUGAR WORKER. NEVERTHELESS I WAS INSPIRED BECAUSE TRACING THE ROOTS OF SUGAR IN AMERICA AND ITS INDUSTRILUZATION ONTO THE AMERICAN POPULATION HAS LED ME TO MY OWN ANCESTRY AND ALL THE WORK AND DUES THEY PAID TO KEEP THINGS A LITTLE SWEETER IN A COMPLETELY NOT SWEET SITUATION. TAXI NIGHTS

I USUALLY FIND MYSELF IN POSITIONS WHERE THE CITY I LIVE IN NY TREATS ME WIHT SOME PRETTY GOOD HAZY NIGHTS, THIS IS ONE OF THEM, A TAXI RIDE BACK TO BROOKLYN WITH A FRIEND OF MIND LAST SUMMER, I REMEMBER IT BEING VERY HOT OUT, THE CITY WAS SCREAMING WITH PERSPIRATION, NONETHELESS THE RIDE HOME WAS COOLING AND RELAXING. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THE PERFECT TIME TO CAPTURE WHAT KIND OF NIGHT IT ENDED UP BEING. LOVE THIS CITY LOVE THE IMMEDIACY AND THE LUMINOSITY OF EVERYTHING FROM THE REFLECTORS AND THE CAUTION SIGNS TO THE STREET LIGHTS, TO ME IT REALLY IS AN AMAZING PLACE AND I WOULDN’T WANT TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE RIGHT NOW.
